the cinco de mayo i'll never forget

Last Cinco de Mayo was the Cinco de never forgetto.
Why, you ask? Why, because it was the Cinco I was no longer single!
I worked at a Mexican restaurant at the time - so, as one could imagine, we were slammed. The restaurant management delegated certain servers to different parts of the restaurant on that day based on your experience and level of physical attraction. Apparently, they found me really hot, because they made me work a double shift in the busiest part of the restaurant.
As the chips & salsa and margaritas started flowing, I was feelin' good. People were giving me good vibes, I wasn't making any mistakes, the whole team of employees
seemed to be helping each other out. I thought to myself, "Hey. This is going to be a good night."
But I was not prepared for just how good it would get.
Later on, my then boyfriend showed up with - not his family - but my family. They sat in my section, among a whole host of drunken white people. They too treated themselves to tequila to loosen up.
I now realize it was because my poor boyfriend was so nervous.
At the end of their meal, as dessert began to arrive, he could wait no longer to pop the question.
"Wiley...are you really busy right now?"
I looked around. "Nah, not really. You guys are my last table, actually. Just doing my side work."
He coughed. "Well, can you come here for a second? I need to ask you something."
"Ugh, let me just finish so we can all get out of here..." I started to mumble, half to him, half to myself, until I stopped. I gasped mid-sentence. He was on his knees.
"Toliver, will you marry me?"
He pulled a bouquet from behind his back. I could tell it was from Fallon's Flowers.
My mom began to cry. I began to cry.
"YES!" He stood up; I jumped into his arms; my legs wrapping around his waist. The entire restaurant staff started cheering.
"Yay for Toliver!" exclaimed Manuel, one of the mustached bartenders. "Shots of tequila for everybody!"
And that, my friends, was one Cinco de Mayo I will never forget.
